The Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Universal Design at The State University of New York, University at Buffalo has produced the booklet Visit-ability: an Approach to Universal Design in Housing.

It offers:

  • A complete overview of Visit-ability requirements;
  • An explanation of the differences between visit-ability, accessible housing, and universal design;
  • A critiques of current housing design such as New Urbanism;
  • An analysis of cost (less than 1 percent of total construction costs for the dwelling unit part);
  • Case studies; and
  • Strategies for advocating visit-ability in local projects.
